Virtual interpretation provides remote language assistance when a patient and provider need to communicate, but an in-person interpreter is not being used. It can be useful for healthcare appointments and consultations where participants are in different locations or where remote interpretation is appropriate for the interaction. Virtual interpretation can support communication throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.
How It Works
Virtual interpretation may be provided through:
- Telephone-based interpretation
- Video-accessible interpretation
- Remote communication between patients and healthcare providers
- Interpretation of questions, responses, instructions, and other spoken information
- Two-way communication between participants who speak different languages
What to Expect
The interpreter provides language support remotely while the patient and provider communicate by telephone or video. Participants continue speaking directly with one another while the interpreter facilitates the exchange between languages. The remote format allows language assistance to be provided when the participants and interpreter are not together in the same physical location.
